2013 Education Highlights
2013 was a significant year for education in Utah. After budget work was completed this session, the Utah State Office of Education will have $3,830,500,000 to spend on Utah school, teachers, administrators and students. This constitutes a 4.6% increase in overall state funding to public education in Utah.
In addition to funding these classroom and school programs, a two percent increase (totaling $47,700,000) was added to the WPU (weighted pupil unit—the basic funding measure for Utah schools). This money goes to the districts to fund administration, teacher benefits, and salaries. Enrollment growth was fully funded as well. $70,796,300 was added to the budget to accommodate new students in the system.
